Why I Don’t Eat Chipotle Anymore

chipotleMaybe if we took our health seriously enough to figure out what we’re actually putting into our bodies then we would make better choices about what we eat.

I have long been a fan of Chipotle. The tender carnitas meat complimented with beans, rice, crispy lettuce and salsas of my choosing – all wrapped up in a 13in. tortilla which ultimately creates a burrito that is about as big as my head. Yum. By the looks of the ingredients and fresh taste I was convinced that I was eating a semi-healthy meal, and so I filed Chipotle under my “not-so-bad for a meal-on-the-go” folder. Until I discovered the Chipotle Nutrition Facts website.

The website produces the nutrition information for you based on what ingredients you put in your burrito. I always get (now got) the same thing so this part was easy. The results were mind-boggling: 2750mg of sodium. Are you kidding me? 1055 calories? Oh, and 57g of protein, just in case I need to lift a small car.

Needless to say, I can’t bring myself to go back to chipotle even if I split the burrito with someone.

I still frequent plenty of restaurants that I’m sure serve food with comparable nutritional facts. Maybe it’s time to do some research and start thinking twice…
